Repeal of A 370 led to severe miseries

Repeal of A 370 led to severe miseries, says Iltija Mufti

Mumbai: Former Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter Iltija Mufti, while speaking at India Today Conclave 2019, questioned what the Indian government is doing while Pakistan has been speaking for Kashmir internationally.

She slammed the government over the abrogation of Article 370. She also said that the people of Kashmir feel that their culture and identity will be subsumed in the abrogation of Article 370.

When asked about justification provided for the Article 370 move, Iltija Mufti said, “Do you want to persecute minorities now for unfinished business of partition?”

She slammed the BJP-led government and said institutionalising repression and using brute force is not how “you are going to win hearts”.

She further said that if the government wanted to win the confidence of the Kashmiri people, then they must roll back the abrogation of Article 370.

“How long will you keep using Pakistan as an excuse for everything related to Kashmir? Most of the youth who are drifting towards militancy hold PhDs, are engineers and graduates. They have seen so much in life,” Iltija Mufti said.

She also said, “I am not justifying them (agitators)…I am trying to humanise them. The government has a concerted agenda to dehumanise Kashmiri people,” Iltija Mufti said.

Speaking about the launch of Chandrayaan-2 rover failure she said, “You showed more feelings when the rover failed. In Kashmir, nine million people have been incarcerated. Do you not feel empathy for them?” Iltija Mufti asked.

At the Conclave, Iltija Mufti wondered if the country today was ‘Gandhi’s India or Godse’s India’.

She said that Kashmiris have been “caged” for the past month. “Can we talk about the humanitarian crisis, economic crisis, psychological crisis, the human trauma that people have been subjected to?” she wondered.

“How would you feel if in Mumbai you would need a curfew pass to move around in your own country?”

Iltija Mufti asked why she had to approach the Supreme Court to meet her mother in Kashmir. The top court on September 5 allowed her to meet the former chief minister.

“I said to myself, Modi Sahab, there are 10-11-year-old ones who have been kidnapped, their mothers are unable to sleep in the night thinking where their children must be,” Iltija Mufti said. “You [Modi] can meet your mother, don’t we have the right to? Don’t I have the right to meet

my mother? Why I had to reach out to Supreme Court Modi-ji?”

Corporate tax reliefs to spur growth

Corporate tax reliefs to spur growth, create jobs: India Inc

The tax reliefs will help us to use funds to make more in India and benefit the economy as a whole

Bengaluru: The series of tax reliefs Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced in New Delhi on Friday would revive the economy, boost investment, spur growth and create jobs, said India Inc honchos across the sectors.

“The corporate tax relief measures are a concrete step to stabilise the economy, boost investment, spur growth and create jobs in key sectors,” Tech Mahindra Chief Executive C.P. Gurnani said in a statement here.

Hailing the lowering of corporate tax, Gurnani said the timely move would give a fillip to the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiatives and attract overseas and domestic investments for creating the much needed jobs and growth momentum.

“The government has taken a giant leap in tax reforms. It’s a huge boost to corporates and will enhance India’s position as a competitive destination for fresh foreign investments,” Wipro Chief Financial Officer Jatin Dalal said in a statement here.

Noting that the announcements would give a fresh impetus to the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative with reduced tax rates, Dalal said the clarification on grand-fathering of buyback tax on inflight buyback programmes as of July 5 was a comforting move.

“The withdrawal of tax on buy back of shares will go a long way in restoring confidence in the market and nudge companies to make fresh investments,” said Dalal.

Besides lowering the corporate tax on domestic firms to 22 per cent to firms not availing exemptions and incentives, Sitharaman has also abolished the payment of Minimum Alternate Tax (MAT).

The effective rate, however, will be 25.17 per cent with cess and surcharge.

The corporate tax will be 15 per cent for new firms investing in manufacturing and commencing production before March 31, 2023. They will also be exempt from the MAT.

The MAT has also been reduced to 15 per cent, from 18.5 per cent, to companies availing concessions and tax incentives.

The Finance Minister also announced that companies which announced share buy-back plans before the new tax on them was introduced in the Union Budget for fiscal 2019-20 on July 5, would not have to pay tax.

“The series of measures the government has taken since a week shows its commitment to bolster the economy and spearhead growth by turning the sentiment positive, keeping in view the target of achieving a $5-trillion economy by 2024,” said Barcho India Managing Director Rajiv Bhalla.

Terming the tax sops bold for ease of doing business, Jaina group Managing Director Pradeep Jain said the taxation measures would incentivise companies focused on ‘Make in India’ and the country’s economic betterment.

“The tax reliefs will help us to use funds to make more in India and benefit the economy as a whole,” Jain said in a statement here.

Operation Polo- Indian Army

Operation Polo- Indian Army targeted Razakars and members of TAS

Hyderabad, as we know of it today, is a part of India. But it was not so in the past.

In 1724, Nizam-ul-Mulk Asaf Jah established Hyderabad, a state that spread over most of the Deccan plateau. Not only did it become popular, it was also prosperous as it had its own army, railway and airline network, postal system and a radio network. Eighty five per cent of the Nizam’s subjects were Hindus. In 1798, the Royal state of Hyderabad was the first to agree to British protection under the policy of Subsidiary Alliance.

In 1947, when the British left India, they gave the princely states the choice to either join India or Pakistan or remain independent. Being one state not under the British rule, it opposed the idea of a merger with India after Independence.

In 1947, Home Minister Sardar Patel requested Osman Ali Khan Asaf Jah VII, the last Nizam of the princely state of Hyderabad, to join India, but he refused. Instead, he declared Hyderabad as an independent nation on August 15, 1947.

It was in June 1948 that Lord Mountbatten proposed the Heads of Agreement deal which gave Hyderabad the status of an autonomous dominion nation under India. India was ready to sign the deal and did so but the Nizam refused on the grounds that he wanted complete independence or the status of dominion under the British Commonwealth of Nations.

Preparations in progress

The chaos, the unclear negotiations and rumours that Hyderabad was arming itself with support from the Portuguese administration in Goa and Pakistan, led to communal clashes and added to tension.

The idea of Hyderabad arming itself aided by Pakistan did not go down well with the Indian Government. Sardar Patel described the idea of an independent Hyderabad as “an ulcer in the heart of India which needed to be removed surgically.” This was when talks between India and Hyderabad started and India decided to annex Hyderabad. This operation was named “Operation Polo” and it is also referred to as “Operation Caterpillar” at times.

Though it was only a five-day war that began in September 13 and lasted till September 18, it was significant as the Indian Army took over a powerful state and Hyderabad was attached to India.

A state of Emergency was declared when 36,000 Indian troops entered Hyderabad because the government was apprehensive about how the rest of India would react. It is estimated that 32 were killed and 97 injured on the Indian side and 490 killed and 122 wounded from Hyderabad.

YSRCP Govt Saves 43 crores

Reverse Tendering Is Grand Success – YSRCP Govt Saves 43 crores

Big achievement

The reverse tendering undertaken by the Andhra Pradesh government has given expected results. The first bid for 65 packages of the Polavaram project was bid by a company in L1 category for a cost of 231 crores, which is 15.6 per cent less than the estimated cost of 274 crores quoted in TDP regime. Total of 43 crores was reduced due to reverse tendering. Along with the L1 other companies also participated in the bid and quoted their prices. The details of it would be formally revealed tonight.

The government usually allocates the works to the company which bid under L1 category. However, in reverse tendering, firms have to file tenders to reduce the company’s price as a basic benchmark by lowering its revenues. The company filed a bid for a 15.6 per cent reduction in its initial package. Since it is much smaller than the rest of the organization, there are chances of assigning work to this company.

E-Action (Reverse Tendering) was held at11am on Friday. Six companies competed. The e-action was conducted for two hours and 45 minutes. The lowest bidder is likely to be assigned the job by examining the qualifications. This is the first time the state government has undertaken transparent reverse tendering in the country. Six of these companies are competing.

Hyderabad: Stating that all the government hospitals in the capital city were over crowded with patients of Dengue and viral fevers, the State BJP president K Laxman today demanded that the State government immediately declare Health Emergency, provide free medical treatment to them and made available all necessary medicines in the hospitals.

According to the report published in siasat.com

Speaking after distributing fruits to the patients in the Fever Hospital at Nallakunta here as part of Seva Saptaha program being organized on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, Dr Laxman said his party will be launching an agitation demanding that the State government build four general hospitals in the city to cater to the needs of the patients.

Instead of planning to build a new secretariat and a new Assembly building in the city, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar should build four 1,000-bed hospitals in the city as promised four years ago. Our party will not rest until this promise by the Chief Minister, made four years ago, is fulfilled. Not even a single brick has been laid for any of these promised hospitals,” Laxman said.

The hospitals were promised in Uppal-LB Nagar, Malkajgiri-Cantonment, Qutbullapur-Kukatpally and Serilingampally-Rajendranagar, he said. All the Government hospitals are full with patients suffering from fever.
Had the Government built these promised  hospitals, the overcrowding could have been avoided and patients could have been served better. The government must also fill the more than 3,000 vacancies of doctors and other paramedical staff, he added.
